Terms and conditions
The rules that apply when you order from Bookwinkel.
Version: November 2026
Article 1. Identity
These terms are from Optimus Digital B.V., trading as Bookwinkel.
- Address: Pieter Goedkoopweg 20, 2031 EL Haarlem, The Netherlands
- Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number: 94035814
- VAT number: NL866612312B01
- Email: contact@bookwinkel.com
- Website: bookwinkel.com
Article 2. Applicability
These terms apply to every order at Bookwinkel. We sell to customers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
The terms are written for consumers. If you order as a business, they apply too, except for the rights the law gives only to consumers, such as the right of withdrawal.
You can read, save and print these terms on this page. Your statutory rights as a consumer always remain in place.
Article 3. Offer and contract
Each book shows its main features, the price and the delivery time. Our offer applies as long as the book is available. An obvious mistake in the offer does not bind us.
You order by following the steps on the site and paying. We then send you a confirmation by email. That confirmation concludes the contract.
What if we cannot carry out an order after all? Then we will let you know and refund what you have already paid.
Article 4. Prices
All prices are in euros and include VAT. Shipping costs are added to the price. You will see them in your cart before you pay. The amounts are on the Delivery and shipping page.
Your order is charged at the price shown at the moment you order.
Article 5. Payment
You pay when you order, with iDEAL | Wero, Bancontact, Visa or Mastercard. Payment goes through our payment service provider. You can read more on the Payment methods page.
Article 6. Delivery
We deliver to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, with PostNL, DHL or DPD. We ship to the address you give with your order.
Each book shows its delivery time. If it says "ordered before 15:00, shipped the same day", we ship the book on the day you order, Monday to Friday, when you order before 15:00. If it says "shipped within 5–8 working days", we ship it within that period. If you order several books, they go together in one shipment and the latest shipping date decides when it leaves.
If we cannot deliver on time, we will let you know as soon as possible.
The risk of loss or damage stays with us until you, or someone you have chosen for this, receive the book.
Article 7. Right of withdrawal
As a consumer, you may withdraw from the contract within 14 days, without giving a reason. The period runs from the day you, or someone you have chosen for this, receive the book. This right applies to books without exception.
You use the withdrawal form for this. You fill it in and confirm your statement in the next step. You do not need an account. You will then receive an acknowledgement by email. You are on time if you send your statement before the 14 days have passed. You may also withdraw in another clear way, for example by email to contact@bookwinkel.com.
Send the book back within 14 days of your withdrawal to Pieter Goedkoopweg 20, 2031 EL Haarlem, The Netherlands. The cost of sending it back is yours.
We refund you no later than 14 days after the day we received your withdrawal. You get back the price of the book and also the standard shipping costs. We may wait until we have received the book, or until you have shown that you sent it back. Whichever comes first counts.
Is the book damaged, or has its value dropped because you handled it more than needed to assess it? Then we may deduct that loss of value from the refund. You can read more on the Returns page.
Article 8. Conformity and guarantee
As a consumer, you have the right to the legal guarantee. A book must conform to the contract. So it must have the qualities you may expect based on our information, and be fit for normal use.
In the European Union, this protection applies for at least two years. In the Netherlands there is no fixed end date: a book must last as long as you may reasonably expect. If you live in Belgium or Germany, the statutory rules of your own country apply.
Does a book not conform? Email us as soon as possible. You are then entitled to repair, replacement or a refund, free of charge. Any shipping costs are then ours.
Article 9. Complaints
Do you have a complaint? First email us at contact@bookwinkel.com, or write to the address in article 1. Describe your complaint clearly and include your order number. We respond within 14 days.
We are not affiliated with a disputes committee (Geschillencommissie). If we cannot resolve it together, you can go to the competent court.
Article 10. Personal data
We use your personal data to carry out your order. Our Privacy policy explains which data this is and what rights you have.
Article 11. Force majeure
Sometimes we cannot carry out an order, or cannot do so on time, because of something outside our control, such as a disruption at a delivery service or extreme weather. We will then let you know as soon as possible. If it takes too long, you may cancel the order free of charge and we will refund what you have already paid. Your statutory rights remain in place.
Article 12. Applicable law
Dutch law applies to these terms and to every order. Do you live in another country as a consumer? Then you keep the mandatory protection of the country where you live.
Article 13. Changes
We may change these terms. The latest version is on this page, with the date at the top. Your order is governed by the terms that were on the site at the moment you ordered.
