Who is responsible

Optimus Digital B.V., trading as Bookwinkel, is the controller of your personal data.

What data we process

  • Order data: your name, delivery address, billing address, email address, the books you order and the amounts.
  • Payment data: the payment method and the status of your payment. We do not store your card details.
  • Account data: if you create an account, your login details and your orders.
  • Contact data: what you write to us, by email or through a form on the site, such as a withdrawal.
  • Technical data: for example your IP address, browser details and cookies.

Without your name, address and email address we cannot carry out your order.

Purposes and legal bases

  • Carrying out your order, including payment, shipping and returns. Legal basis: performance of the contract.
  • Managing your account. Legal basis: performance of the contract.
  • Answering your questions and complaints. Legal basis: performance of the contract or our legitimate interest.
  • Keeping our accounts and filing taxes. Legal basis: legal obligation.
  • Securing the site and preventing misuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest.
  • Sending marketing messages, such as a newsletter. We only do this with your consent. Legal basis: consent.
  • Using analytics and marketing cookies. We only do this with your consent. Legal basis: consent.

Recipients

We only share data when needed. Recipients are:

  • hosting and email service providers;
  • our payment service provider;
  • delivery services: PostNL, DHL and DPD;
  • our accountant and accounting software.

We also share data when the law requires us to.

Is data processed outside the European Economic Area? Then we use the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission.

Retention periods

  • Orders and invoices: 7 years, because of the tax retention obligation.
  • Account data: until your account is deleted.
  • Email contact: 2 years.

Security

We protect your data with appropriate technical and organisational measures, such as encrypted connections and limited access.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access your data;
  • have incorrect data corrected;
  • have your data deleted;
  • have the processing restricted;
  • object to the processing;
  • have your data transferred;
  • withdraw your consent.

To do so, email contact@bookwinkel.com. We respond within one month. We must keep some data because the law requires it. We cannot delete that data earlier.

Complaints

Are you unhappy with how we handle your data? Email us first. You can also file a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the Dutch data protection authority. If you live in Belgium or Germany, you can also go to the supervisory authority in your own country.
